Today marks the 60^th anniversary of the Floyd County bus crash that occurred near Prestonsburg on February 28, 1958. It was classified as the worst school bus disaster in the nation’s history, claiming the lives 27 individuals. Recovery efforts lasted several months and lead to the formation of the Floyd County Rescue Squad, which is headquartered in Prestonsburg.
