Fatality in Fiery Breathitt County Crash

The driver in a single vehicle crash was killed the morning of Monday, March 19, 2018 in Breathitt County. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call of the collision at around 2am. Trooper Loren Holliday responded to the scene on Highway 1098 in the South Fork community. Sergeant Joel Abner with KSP, McIntosh Ambulance, and Quicksand Fire Department also responded to the crash site, where they located a burning vehicle with what appeared to be human remains inside. The initial investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling west on KY 1098 when it veered off the roadway and collided with a tree before becoming engulfed in flames. Breathitt County Coroner George Griffith responded to the scene and pronounced the unidentified occupant deceased. The human remains were removed from the vehicle and transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy and identification. The incident remains under investigation by Trooper Holliday.
