On Tuesday, May 15, 2018, around 1:30pm, Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy Byron Fairchild observed a 2009 Nissan Altima with expire registration. Upon running the plate and confirming the expired tag, a traffic stop was conducted. The driver was identified as 56-year-old Everett Haney of Prestonsburg and appeared to be under the influence. A field sobriety test was conducted and Haney consented to a search of the vehicle and his person, which uncovered suspected methamphetamine suboxone, a pipe and over $1000 in cash. Haney was arrested and charged with trafficking in controlled substance along with several traffic violations. He was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
