East Kentucky Science Center and Varia Planetarium announces 2018 Summer Camps

Big Sandy Community and Technical College’s East Kentucky Science Center and Varia Planetarium located on the Prestonsburg campus has announce their full list of summer camps beginning in June. Registration is required and lunch will be provided to campers in attendance. The list of camps for the summer include:

Students entering Second – Third grade.

Itty Bitty Nano Science | June 28 | 9 a.m. to 3:00p.m.

Cost:  Member $25 and Non-Member $30

 

Did you know a person is over a billion nanometers tall, a dollar bill is magnetic and that your eyeglasses may have ‘memory’? Come learn about hundreds of things you use every day but can’t even see!!

 

Children entering grades fourth – eighth grade.

Space Camp | July 9-10 | 9 a.m. to 3:00p.m.

Cost: Member $40 and Non-Member $50

 

Join us for our annual two-day space camp where we build and launch rockets, explore craters on the moon and soar into the stars to discover the cosmos. This camp explores the basics of rocketry and astronomy with take-home crafts and games!

 

Girls entering Fifth – Eighth.

Racing Robotics – KY Girls STEM | June 14 | 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost:  Member $25 and Non-Member $30

 

Race into robotics with this fast-paced one-day camp designed especially for girls!  Join the EKSC as we team up with leading robotics experts, Dr. Amy LaViers and Joseph Collins who will teach us how to code, program and combine technology and robotics with dance and tai chi! Funded in part by the Kentucky Girls STEM Collaborative Project.

 

New for this year, Drop – In for Science.  The EKSC has partnered with Alltech Laboratories and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to provide hands on science experiments to camp attendees.

Drop –In for Science camps are scheduled for June 6| June 13|June 20|June 27|July 11|July 18 and July 25 from 9a.m. until 11:00a.m.  Parents must attend this particular summer program with their child(ren).   Registration for Drop – In for Science is not required.  Regular admission rates apply.
