Kanawha County Phone Scam

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a phone scam. On Monday, August 13, 2018, a physician’s assistant in Charleston was contacted by someone identifying himself as Stephen Warren with the Kanawha County sheriff’s office. The victim was told she’d missed jury duty and needed to get a $2000 pre-paid credit card and give him the number over the phone before coming to the courthouse. The latest reports indicate the scam is targeting members of the medical community. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens they will never demand payment over the phone. If you receive a call from a deputy or anyone else, call the sheriff’s office at 304-357-0169 to verify the information.
