Fatal Shooting in Carter County

The Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland were called just after 12:28pm on Monday, December 24, 2018, following a shooting at a residence on Winding Way, in the Hitchins community of Carter County. Troopers responded and made entry into the house to find two people, one male and one female, with single gunshot wounds to the head. The preliminary investigation indicated that Billy Suttles, age 54, of Grayson, was involved in a domestic violence incident with his live-in girlfriend, 49-year Rebecca Lancaster, when he retrieved a .25 caliber handgun and shot her one time. Evidence suggests Suttles then turned the gun on himself. Lancaster was pronounced dead at the scene, and Suttles was transported to Saint Mary’s Trauma Center in Huntington, West Virginia, where he later succumbed to his injury.
