Kentucky State Police Post 9 Pikeville have opened a death investigation with one fatality involved in a structure fire. Just after 3pm Tuesday, January 29, 2019, Post 9 received a 911 call reporting a structure fire on Scotts Bottom Road in Virgie, and possibly someone inside the residence. Shelby Valley Fire Department, the State Fire Marshall’s office, KSP Detective with Post 9 Arson investigator, and the Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts responded to the scene. After the fire was extinguished and a search of the structure was conducted, an unidentified male was located inside the residence deceased. An autopsy was scheduled. At this time no foul play is suspected.
