A work requirement for Medicaid recipients has been blocked by a federal judge. On Wednesday, March 27, 2019, US District Judge James Boasberg in Washington, D.C., issued a ruling blocking the work requirement for low-income people in Kentucky and Arkansas. In his ruling, Judge Boasberg said the states’ requirements would create several obstacles to getting healthcare, but did not issue a decision on whether the work requirements are incompatible with Medicaid. Governor Matt Bevin said Kentucky would appeal the decision. House Democratic Leader Rocky Adkins issued a statement following the decision, saying it saves almost 100,000 Kentuckians from losing necessary care.
