Recent tests for chronic wasting disease in Kentucky’s deer and elk population did not come back positive, according to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. Six of the seven states bordering Kentucky have tested positive for chronic wasting disease, with Indiana being the exception. The Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources’ monitoring of the disease will be among the topics covered in four community forums to be conducted. Since 2002, the department has tested nearly 30,000 deer and elk, most harvested by hunters, and each county has been tested multiple times.
