On Friday, April 12, 2019, an Estill County man was sentenced for armed drug trafficking. Kevin Abney, 40, of Irvine, was arrested in June 2018 by the Berea Police Department at a business in Berea. During the arrest, officers located 15 grams of fentanyl and two firearms. During his guilty plea, Abney admitted to the possession. He had seven prior felony convictions. He was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison. Abney must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence and upon release will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office for five years.
