The 1st Annual Cole Ousley Memorial Track Meet was held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Prestonsburg High School. The track meet was a fund raiser for The Cole Initiative, which seeks to raise awareness and provide assistance for teens at risk of suicide. TO tell us more, we spoke with Andrea Hurley, mother of Cole Ousley, a former student athlete in track at Prestonsburg. Hurley said it was her son’s Spanish teacher that suggested the meet in his memory. The Cole Initiative also seeks to establish a scholarship fund for track students with an interest in pursuing a psychology degree, which will be awarded at the 2nd Annual Cole Ousley Memorial Track Meet. Hurley’s message for those contemplating suicide is to keep moving forward. For more information on the Cole Initiative Suicide Prevention, visit Facebook.com/youareperfectenough.
