US Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Robert Duncan, Jr., has announced his support for the DEA and Lexington Police Department in their National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 10am to 2pm and his encouragement to the public to participate in the event. The DEA and local agencies will be providing a 17th opportunity in the past 9 years to take an east step toward preventing pill abuse and theft, by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. US Attorney Duncan said the agencies involved in Take Back Day provide a vital resource in fighting the opioid problem in the Commonwealth. The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles, or sharps, only pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. In October 2018, the public turned in 457 tons of prescription drugs at more than 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and nearly 4,800 of its local and tribal partners.
