A roof was blown off of the Hock Shop building around 2:30 p.m. Massive piles of debris fell on top of cars and blocked a street.
The deputy coroner confirmed that one person is dead. The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.
“We were just working, the electric went off and then all of a sudden you could see the rain. I mean it was hammering down the street,” said Katlyn Mac, who works nearby. “You could see the vehicles shaking and then electric went off. We didn’t know anything had happened until we seen the firetruck come and block the street off.”
We have a reporter at the scene. There will be a news conference with city officials at 4:30 p.m.
The storm also knocked down a tree that fell on power lines in front of Prestonsburg City Hall, where the news conference is supposed to happen. Officials said they are cutting the power so they can safely move the lines out of the way.
We will update the story as more information becomes available.
