At a June 5, 2019 meeting in Frankfort, the Kentucky Board of Education presented Dr. Chandra Varia with the Dr. Samuel Robinson Award. Since 2004, the award has been given to an individual or group in Kentucky for outstanding leadership, commitment, and service in promoting equity and opportunity to learn at high levels for all students. Floyd County Superintendent Danny Adkins discussed Dr. Varia’s involvement with the school system, including supporting the early childhood programs, attending workshops, and encouraging parents to see themselves as their child’s first teacher.
