Perry County- Two dead following crash

Hazard, Ky.  (August 20, 2019) – Two people are dead following a crash in Perry County early Tuesday morning.  Kentucky State Police Post 13 received a call at 7:27 a.m. advising of a two vehicle collision on KY 15 near the junction of KY 28.  Troopers with KSP Post 13 responded to the scene in the Grapevine community.

 The initial investigation determined that a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 was traveling north on KY 15 when it crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche.  The driver of the Avalanche, 62 year old Jeanie Gayheart of Hazard was transported to Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash.  The driver of the S-10 truck was identified as 34 year old Robert Robinson of Hazard.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

 

Seat belts were not in use by either driver and no autopsies will be performed.  Toxicology results for both drivers are pending.  Detective Scott Caudill with KSP Post 13 is leading this investigation.
