A coal worker died at a Western Kentucky mine, company officials confirm Thursday.
39-year-old Jeremy Elder was found unresponsive near a battery-powered scoop inside the Cardinal Mine in Madisonville.
Elder was working when he was pinned underneath a scoop.
His fellow miners carried him back to the surface, where they were met by emergency crews. Elder was pronounced dead around 4:45 p.m.
The accident is under investigation by the Division of Mine Safety personnel, who were on site today.
