Veterans from the Big Sandy region were honored Thursday, October 30th, during Appalachian Hospice Care’s 6th annual Veteran Appreciation Lunch.
The event, hosted at the Jenny Wiley Convention Center, brings veterans together to be recognized as they are served by the people they served to protect.
Fellowship, food and music were all on tap celebrating the veterans. Founder and CEO Sharon Branham says it is one way her organization can do what is often overlooked.
“Veterans were not always welcomed home the way they should be. We feel it’s important that they be honored in the manner which they deserve, fighting for our freedom, representing our country,” Branham said.
The event is hosted annually on the fourth Thursday of October. This year’s event hosted more than 300 veterans and had more than 60 volunteers on-site to serve the meals and lend a helping hand.
