A Laurel County man who admitted to causing a deadly crash that killed his mother was sentenced Monday.

Chris Lee Francis, 37, of East Bernstadt pleaded guilty in Laurel County Circuit Court on October 29, 2019. He pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, wanton endangerment and third offense of DUI. He was driving on the wrong side of the road when he hit another car head-on.

Police said bloodwork showed Francis was high on meth at the time of the crash. Francis’ mother, 60-year-old Holly Francis, was a passenger in the car. She was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in London, following the crash, where she died. The driver of the other vehicle, a two-year-old, and an infant were all injured.

Chris Francis will spend 15 years in prison.
