Construction begins on Floyd County weigh station

The weigh station near the Floyd and Johnson County line is getting a makeover.

The whole front of the station will be glass so officials can see the trucks enter the facility and exit, as opposed to what they had before. It’ll actually be more efficient in observing for violations.

Plus, officials will be able to better monitor the weight of each truck and hold businesses accountable. As they will also be looking for tax violations for companies that are not paying their taxes.

What does that mean for the average driver? It is simple – safety.

So far in 2019, 724 fatal crashes have happened on Kentucky highways. That number has increased from 658 crashes in 2018.

The heavier the truck is, the longer it takes for the truck to stop. This weigh station plays a big role in highway safety, as it is the only one on U.S. 23 in Kentucky.

The new weighing facility is expected to be finished in May 2020.
