Prestonsburg Fire Department released via their Facebook page, last night:

“We have lost one of our own today from an ongoing medical condition. Johnny Shepherd, our longest active member has served our community and this department for 45+ years. Johnny suffered a medical event at his home, from a medical condition, while he was with his family. In the coming days, we will collect ourselves and prepare to ensure that a teacher, our friend, and our brother is laid to rest with the highest respect. We ask for your patience as traditions of past are prepared and executed to ensure that Johnny receives the highest deserved respect and honor.”

Several people in the community have expressed their condolences for the 302 Firefighter and his family both in blood and red.
