Prestonsburg, Ky – At Big Sandy Community & Technical College, our priority is to ensure the
health of our college body and communities we serve. The following measures have been
implemented based on the guidance from the Governor’s Office and the Council on
Postsecondary Education (CPE).

BSCTC will continue to support its students’ learning goals and safety by keeping classes online
or taught remotely through the end of the regular spring semester; the final exam week will take
place remotely.

Many BSCTC classes have a technical or clinical component. We will allow students to
complete lab/technical course instruction and clinicals as the Governor’s Office ends closures of
businesses and schools and as our allied health partners allow students to re-enter clinical
settings. We will provide students an opportunity to complete technical and clinical coursework
at no additional tuition cost if College facilities and equipment are not available during the
regular semester.

BSCTC will remain open on a very limited basis with limited services; We will continue to
provide student support services virtually until the College re-opens on a regular schedule.
We continue to assess the time when we can fully re-open our facilities and return operations to
normal each week in conjunction with guidance from the KCTCS System Office, the Governor’s
Office, and the Kentucky Council on Post-secondary Education.

We will provide dual credit students the best opportunity and support possible to complete their
college coursework in partnership with the student’s high school or Area Technology Center.
Faculty and staff of BSCTC will work from home through April 17 or until the College re-opens
on a regular schedule. To protect campus security and facilitate essential operations, some
critical staff will work on campus following social distancing and sensitization guidelines.

BSCTC appreciates the patience and flexibility of its students, faculty, staff, and community
have shown as we comply with state and local health department guidelines while helping our
students reach their educational goals. We know how hard this time on you and your families
and hope that this continuing communication and the services provided will help get you through
these times.

Dr. Sherry Zylka, President/CEO, stated, “The last couple of weeks have been extremely tough
for us all. We have all taken on this challenge and continue to find new ways to serve our
students and community. To our current students: I ask that you stay put, stay focused, and finish
strong.”
