Health Officials in Floyd County offer Recommendations for Residents in Floyd County Regarding Pike County Case:
As you know by now, we had a person with a Floyd County address as a case of COVID-19 and later found out the person was from Pike County. We have been working with the Pike County Health Department on evaluating risks to the general public. After information we were able to gather today, we are going to advise that any person(s) who visited Rogers Gun & Pawn Shop at Betsy Layne, KY between March 29th and April 4th could have been exposed and should self-monitor and self-quarantine at least 14 days from the date there for any signs of COVID-19 to include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If you start having these symptoms, please contact your primary care provider. We continue to work with the state health department and our local providers as we try to provide our community the most up-to-date information on COVID-19 in Floyd County. Due to HIPPA privacy, we cannot release any other information about the person.
We urge you to continue to practice social distancing and don’t assume that just because a business is open you are free to go there unless it is absolutely necessary.
Thursa Sloan, Public Health Director said, “While we believe the risk to the general public is low the best way to avoid getting the virus is practice social distancing and stay at your home with your household members and only go out for work, grocery, or pharmacy needs.” Floyd County testing capabilities are improving and Sloan said, “As testing increases, so will cases in all counties so we are closely monitoring all labs that we are aware of that have been submitted to our county.”
The Health Department offers these ways in addition to social distancing to control the spread and stop the curve:
Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds/ use hand sanitizer until you can get to soap and water.
Cover your cough and dispose of Kleenex property in the trash.
Avoid close contact with those who are sick.
Avoid touching your face.
Clean and disinfect frequently used objects often like heavy traffic areas, door knobs, TV changers, cell phones, computers, faucets , and countertops.
The virus is thought to spread primarily from person to person through close contact but can live at various times on different surfaces and can spread when an infective person coughs or sneezes.
