On Sunday, Governor Andy Beshear announced 134 new cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky. As of Sunday at 5 p.m. the total number of cases in the state stand at at least 1,963.

“In Kentucky, we are still not seeing the increase we are seeing in other states and we are grateful for that,” Gov. Beshear said.

Of those cases, local health departments confirmed there are two from Laurel County and one from Leslie County.

The governor also announced three new deaths, one is a 62-year-old man who was being cared for in Pike County. The death toll in Kentucky now stands at 97.

At least 607 people (30.9% of total cases) have recovered from COVID-19 in Kentucky. At least 25,866 people have been tested.

Kentucky is also partnering with Kroger to launch free drive-thru testing sites across the state.

“I’m very excited about this. It’s good news,” Gov. Beshear said. “We’ve been working with Kroger for several weeks just trying to get it right. The potential here, just from this program, could almost double the amount of testing we have right now.”

This particular testing will only be available to health care workers, first responders, people age 65 and older and people with chronic health conditions.

Governor Andy Beshear said this should help provide 20,000 new tests that will be administered over the next five weeks.
