
During yesterday’s daily coronavirus update, Governor Andy Beshear announced 161 new cases, bringing the state’s total to 3,481.
Six new coronavirus-deaths have been reported. The death toll is now 191.
Since the virus was first reported in Kentucky, 1,335 people have recovered.
Before the new cases and deaths were reported, Deputy Secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services Eric Friedlander said everyone at Jackson Manor in Annville will be retested for the virus. At least 51 positive COVID-19 cases and four deaths have been connected to the nursing home.
That announcement comes as the commonwealth pushes to ramp up testing statewide.
The governor announced Wednesday that all Kentuckians are eligible for testing at state-run facilities. Previously, only people who were exhibiting symptoms of the disease could receive a test.
Health officials opened new drive-thru testing facilities this week, including two locations in Pikeville and Somerset.
Nearly 43,000 Kentuckians have been administered some sort of COVID-19 test.
The governor expanded on his announcement from Wednesday that Kentucky is moving to reopen certain medical practices as part of an effort to ease restrictions on state businesses.
Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack announced that some non-urgent and emergent healthcare services, diagnostic services, radiology and lab services can reopen April 27.
Those include healthcare clinics, medical offices, physical therapy settings and chiropractic offices, optometrists, and dental offices.
Those facilities will need to follow strict precautions to prevent the further spread of the disease, Dr. Stack said.
