The University of Pikeville is already making changes to prepare for the fall semester.
Classes will now move to an eight-week block schedule while undergraduate students will receive textbooks at no cost.
With the implementation of an eight-week block schedule, University officials say students will have even more time to pursue internships, athletics and other learning activities.
The university is still unsure whether classes will resume in-person or online in the fall since the pandemic has left a lot up in the air.
University President Dr. Burton Webb says the university will use the fall semester to see how the changes work and will then decide if the block schedule will stick. Reports say some of the students say they are already looking forward to the change. With a lot of them mentioning being excited to hear about the free books since the price of textbooks has been an ongoing issue.
Dr. Webb says that is why the university worked to find a new partnership that would allow the books to be used free of charge.
Dr. Webb said the university has also opened up it’s full-tuition “Pikeville Promise” scholarship to any Kentucky resident who meets the scholarship requirements. The university is working to provide the best for its Bears.
