Kentucky has officially surpassed the 6,000-case benchmark as of Thursday.
At 5pm on Thursday, Governor Andy Beshear announced 208 new cases of covid-19 and 11 new deaths in the state of Kentucky.
This brings the total number of Kentuckians who have contracted the virus to at least 6,129 . The death toll is now at 294. Reportedly, 2,177 people have recovered from the virus.
Governor Andy Beshear also presented the second phase of his plan to reopen Kentucky’s economy.
Phase Two in the “Healthy at Work” plan is set to begin on May 22 with restaurants opening at one-third of their normal capacity. Outdoor seating is not limited, provided patrons can stay properly distanced.
That does not include bars, though the governor says he hopes to reopen in July with limited groups of 50 people.
The second phase continues on June 1, with movie theaters and fitness centers.
Starting June 11, public and private campgrounds may reopen.
On June 15, childcare services may continue. Youth sports may also resume, provided they are “low-touch” and outdoors.
Kentucky is currently in Phase 1 of reopening. As of May 11th, manufacturing, construction, vehicle or vessel dealerships, professional services (50 percent), horse racing (no fans) and dog grooming/boarding businesses have been allowed to reopen.
