State and Local COVID-19 Update

On Friday during the state COVID-19 Update, Governor Andy Beshear announced 176 new cases and four new deaths in Kentucky. At that time, at least 6,288 Kentuckians have contracted the virus. The death toll was at 298 with a report of 2,266 people who have recovered from the virus. On Friday, at least 86,428 Kentuckians had received tests.

On Saturday the Governor announced that there were an additional 158 new cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky. That brought the state’s total number of cases to 6,440. The governor also announced six new deaths bringing Kentucky’s death toll from COVID-19 to 304. With new reports saying 2,308 have recovered from the virus. 86,900 people in Kentucky have been tested. The Governor also released information that 1,757 have ever been hospitalized due to the virus, 394 are currently in the hospital with 226 of those individuals being currently treated in the ICU.

Locally, as of May 10, the Floyd County Health Department reports that, the number of cases of COVID-19 in Floyd County remains at 16. Free testing is still available at the ARH Archer Clinic from Monday through Friday. The Heath Department does expect cases to increase as we phase back into reopening and continue testing. We have not been able to receive a number from the Health Department on how many people have been tested in Floyd County.

Johnson County Judge Executive Mark McKenzie has reported that Johnson County remains at a total of 4 positive cases of COVID-19. These cases range in wide spread diffrence in age but those over 60 and those with compromised immune system are the most at risk. Johnson County now has a drive-thru testing site for COVID-19 through Dr. Castle’s office on Broadway.

McKenzie also reported that Johnson County now has at least 52.3% of households in Johnson County reporting for the Census. A jump from last weeks roughly 46%. The information gathered from the census helps the county and state get funding for the next 10 years. To fill out your census visit 2020census.gov

Johnson County Judge Executive Mark McKenzie also reminds everyone that the County Wide Clean-Up Project with the help of Apple Valley Sanitation starts today and runs through the next 3 weeks. If you have any solid waste you’d like to drop off for free, you’re asked to call ahead to Apple Valley to get a voucher for a time to drop of your solid waste in order to limit face-to-face interaction.

The Johnson County Fiscal Court will be hosting a in face meeting tonight at 4:45. Though the meeting is in person only those needed to conduct the meeting will be present in order to comply with social distancing guidelines. The meeting will be broadcast live through YouTube.
