During Monday’s Daily COVID-19 Update for the state of Kentucky, Governor Andy Beshear announced 141 new cases of the virus on Sunday and 105 on Monday. Three new deaths were reported on Sunday and four new deaths were reported on Monday.

So far at least 6,677 Kentuckians have contracted the virus. The death toll is now at 311.
An estimated, 2,335 people have recovered from the virus and about 104,001 Kentuckians have received tests.

Officials in Pike County reported two new cases of the coronavirus on Monday, bringing the county’s total number of cases to 18 with 4 other probable cases. The new cases are a 22 year old and a 70 year old. Both are women and are self-isolating at home.

During the conference, Governor Beshear paused his daily briefing for a moment of silence for a 10-year old child, who is on a ventilator.. He says officials believe it’s the only case of a Kentucky child suffering from the syndrome.

Dr. Steven Stack, Kentucky’s public health commissioner, says a small number of children can get a syndrome in which their immune system becomes overactive, causing an inflammatory response. Stack says the illness can manifest itself as a respiratory or gastrointestinal problem.

Yesterday was the first day the new guidelines asking Kentuckians to wear face-masks when out in public went into affect, a few weeks after the Governor issued the order. The order does not necessarily require you to wear a mask, but does strongly recommend you do. Businesses can ask you to leave if you are not wearing one. Also, employees at essential businesses are required to put on a mask.
