Acting police chief for the Louisville Police Department, Robert Schroeder made an announcement earlier today regarding an individual who was fatally shot while officers and National Guard soldiers were attempting to enforce a curfew.

Video footage of the man identified as David McAtee, age 53 shows he fired shots towards officers who were attempting to clear protesters from a parking lot. The surveillance video was obtained from McAtee’s own YaYa’s BBQ Shack and from another adjacent business. The footage was released during a news conference led by Mayor Greg Fischer.

Fischer, Schroeder, and Maj. Paul Humphrey maintained that the investigation into Monday’s shooting is still in the early stages and that many questions remain unanswered.

“Mr. McAtee appears to fire at the officers, and they take cover and return fire. But without audio … that is yet to be determined,” Humphrey said.

“This video does not provide all the answers, but we are releasing it to provide transparency,” Schroeder said.
