Louisville Police are changing a policy regarding using tear gas as a means to disperse crowds after receiving complaints during recent protests.

The department’s interim police chief, Robert Schroeder says that any use of tear gas from now on will require approval from either the chief of police or his designee.

Schroeder also apologized to peaceful protesters who were exposed to the gas.

He and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer say that tensions were rising after protests began in Louisville on May 28th.
