During a video announcement on the Pike County Schools Facebook page, posted earlier today, Pike County Superintendent, Reed Adkins says that the district’s re-entry committee has voted to give students the choice of either taking part in all-online classes or to participate in full-time, in-class learning for the upcoming school year.
“We feel that we have created a program for our children that is both safe and will be beneficial for them in relation to their educational program,” Adkins said.
Adkins explained that the online learning process would take place through the Canvas learning management program. Students will receive instruction through a video of a teacher and then complete an assignment based on the contents of that video.
The full-time, in-class students will be going to school for five-day weeks while adhering to the guidelines put in place by the CDC. They will be social distancing along with being required to wear masks when moving or when social distancing is not possible.
Superintendent Adkins also announced that the Pike County School District will be opening for the fall semester on August 26th for students. The year is scheduled to end in mid-May.
