Superintendent Danny Adkins announces changes in administration.
Adkins comments, “We’ve had a few administrative changes and we just want to make sure that we help our students and parents connect faces and names with schools and programs.”
Brent Hall started serving as an assistant principal for Prestonsburg Elementary at the end of 2019. He has previously taught middle and high school mathematics. Brent has coached basketball, academics and STLP. Brent says that he wanted to be a part of the support team that helps our students face challenges and change their lives. He comments, “I am very thankful to be at Prestonsburg Elementary, The staff and the community have been so welcoming and made me feel at home.”
Brent and his wife Whitney (a special education teacher) have a four-year-old son, Taylen, and a two-year-old daughter, Hadley. Wes Halbert has 23 years in the education field with 8 of those teaching high school science and 15 in administration. When asked why he wanted to serve in his new role as principal for the Floyd County Early College Academy, Halbert comments, “I want to provide the support that our students need to ensure that this challenging endeavor of attending college at an early age offers them the best possible opportunity to achieve their goals. I’m passionate about building our future leaders so that they can make a positive impact on our region.
Wes and his wife Amy have a daughter, Jannah and a son, Hayden.
Kyle Shepherd is now principal for Allen Elementary. His 15 years in education have given him the opportunity to teach students with special needs in the alternative setting and at Allen Elementary and to be an assistant principal. Shepherd has worked on district and school level leadership teams, served as athletic director, coached athletics and judged STLP projects at multiple levels. When asked if his various experiences will help him this year, Shepherd says, “This will definitely be a unique and challenging year, but I look forward to working with our community to provide a safe and prosperous learning environment for our kids. I am humbled and honored to be selected to lead the amazing team at AES and I can’t wait to see the positive impact we have on kids even through these unprecedented times.”
Kyle and his wife Nikki have two children, Peyton Anne who is 7, and Coulson Lee who is 4. Adkins concludes, “We realized we hadn’t officially introduced Brent Hall as being one of our district leaders and we wanted to make sure we took care of that and let him know how much we truly appreciate the job he’s done. Wes and Kyle have already been serving in a leadership capacity for us but we also want them to know that we appreciate their willingness to take on new and challenging roles, especially during a worldwide pandemic.” Adkins concluded saying, “These amazing leaders are indicative of our Floyd County crew and there’s no doubt in my mind that regardless of the situation, our teachers and leaders will offer our students an education second to none.”
