Name released in deadly Floyd County crash

The southbound lanes of US 23 in the Stanville community of Floyd County were closed on Saturday after 8 p.m. due to a crash.

According to Kentucky State Police (KSP), the crash happened near the old Eric C. Conn law offices and the Bingo Dome at Stanville, across from Cardinal Mart.

Kentucky State Police traffic reconstruction officers say that the crash was caused when a vehicle struck a pedestrian, resulting in a fatality.

Southbound traffic traveling toward Pike County had to take a detour turn onto KY 1426 (Prater Creek) at Banner and come back onto US 23 at Harold.

Kentucky State Police say William McCoy, 66, was killed Saturday night.

According to troopers, McCoy walked into the path of an oncoming car and was hit and killed.

The road was shut down for several hours while crews worked to reconstruct the scene.

Kentucky State Police, Betsy Layne Fire Department and Lifeguard Ambulance Service all responded to the scene.
