Big Sandy Community & Technical College Workforce Solution
graduated the first cohort of the Lineman Training Program on Friday, October 2, at the
Mayo Campus.

BSCTC’s Lineman graduates include Gary Patton, Braydon Conley, Shane Boyd, Josh
Hall, Tanner Blair, Zachary Howell, Lonnie Ratliff, Billy Hall, Brady Taylor, Clinton Jude,
Chad Newsome, Dalton Vaughn, and Colby Mullins.

The Lineman Training Program is a partnership between Big Sandy RECC, Kentucky
Power, and BSCTC. The program prepares students for a meaningful and rewarding
career in the electrical line work industry.

Taught by electrical line industry professionals, the lineman training program teaches
students how to install, maintain, and repair high-powered electrical lines and systems.

The profession requires physical and mental strength, and every day is different. There
are plans underway for more lineman training opportunities.

During her remarks at the graduation, President Sherry Zylka shared her thoughts, “We
are proud of the hard work and passion you have all displayed during these weeks. With
a 100% pass rate, I know you are ready to pursue your mission to help people and
empower communities.”

Big Sandy RECC President Bruce Aaron Davis stated, “We were honored to attend the
recent graduation of the 2020 Lineman class; we wish these fine men all the best in
their future endeavors. Congratulations!”

Bob Shurtleff, External Affairs Manager at Kentucky Power shared his thoughts, “We
are very pleased to partner with BSCTC to train line mechanics right here in eastern
Kentucky. This not only gives us an opportunity to keep our Kentucky Power training
local, it also helps build a path for line mechanics to use the same equipment we use in
the field.”
