Saturday morning the Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post received a call with details about a man who had an active arrest warrant.

Officials say around 11:00 a.m Saturday morning, troopers were asked to find a car that was being driven by a man who had known active warrants out for his arrest.

A Kentucky State Police Trooper pulled over a car on US 119 matching the description. Troopers determined that it was 29-year-old Austin Fields who was driving the car. Troopers say Fields had an active warrant out for his arrest.

Fields took off, leading troopers in a car chase onto KY 881 in the Varney community.

The chase continued until it hit a dirt road that Fields could no longer drive on.

Officials say Fields then got out of his car and began shooting at the officers. Officers then returned fire, injuring Fields.

Fields was flown to Pikeville Medical Center.
