Officials at the Kentucky River Regional jail say that a 69-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday following an overnight stay.

Jail administrator Lonnie Brewer says that the man was charged with driving under the influence, where he was then taken to the hospital and transported to jail following the refusal of medical attention.

“He was put into a cell at the time by himself, he was checked on periodically during the day, medical wise. He had refused medical services upon his arrest that morning, which, he was at the hospital,” Brewer said. “He was under observation, and then at roughly 5:20 this morning, he was found unresponsive in his cell.”

Brewer says that the jail is working with Kentucky State Police in investigating the matter while also conducting an independent investigation of their own.
