During his 4 p.m. update on Wednesday, Jan. 6, Gov. Beshear reported 5,742 new cases of COVID-19. This bring’s Kentucky’s total cases to 286,541 , with 229,808 of those cases being lab confirmed and 56,733 are probable.

34 new deaths were reported Wednesday. This makes a total of 2,806 Kentuckians lost to the virus; though 197 of those are probable and only 2,609 are lab confirmed.

A total of 3,539,929 COVID-19 test have been administered in Kentucky. 3,247,372 were PCR Test, 102,804 were serology test, and 189,753 were antigen test. The positivity rate currently stands at 11.66%.

Currently 1,778 Kentuckians are hospitalized due COVID-19 related symptoms. With 428 in the ICU and 244 on a ventilator.

Top counties with the most positive cases Wednesday were: Jefferson, Fayette, Warren, Kenton and Daviess. Each of these counties reported 200 or more new cases; Jefferson County alone reported 828.

On a positive note, at least 37,821 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.
