Weekend COVID-19 Update for Kentucky as of Sunday, January 18th, 2021

As of Sunday, Jan. 17th the state of Kentucky has reported 2,362 new cases of COVID-19. This bring’s Kentucky’s total cases to 326,675, with 259,967 of those cases being lab confirmed and 66,708 are probable.

This makes a total of 3,127 Kentuckians lost to the virus; though 243 of those are probable and only 2,884 are lab confirmed.

A total of 3,751,889 COVID-19 test have been administered in Kentucky. 3,400,741 were PCR Test, 104,683 were serology test, and 246,465 were antigen test. The positivity rate currently stands at 11.49%.

Currently 1,602 Kentuckians are hospitalized due COVID-19 related symptoms. With 410 in the ICU and 212 on a ventilator.

Top counties with the most positive cases Sunday were: Jefferson, Oldham, Fayette, Kenton and Boone. Each of these counties reported 160 or more new cases; Jefferson County alone reported 584.

On a positve note, at least 40,627 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus. The Governor’s office also reports that 226,175 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been received in Kentucky and 190,547 doses have been administered. Of the doses administered, 31,158 have been given to long-term care facility residents and staff.
