Governor’s Veto Overridden by Legislatures

Kentucky legislatures have have voted to override the Governor’s veto of Senate Bill 228, a bill that will force the governor to select a replacement senator seat from a list of pre-approved individuals that identify as the same political party as the senator that held the vacant seat.

This change is a large change from the previous Kentucky law, which allowed the Governor to select a replacement regardless of political party.

The governor has called this law “unconstitutional”
