Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit has tested positive for steroids following a post-race drug test.

The horse tested positive for Betamethasone, a drug that treats inflammation in the joints of horses. The drug is legal to use in the Derby, but horses should be clear of the drug within two weeks of race day, and Medina Spirit tested exceptionally high for the drug.

Renowned Trainer Bob Baffert has said neither himself nor his team have ever administered the drug to the horse, stating that he feels he has been wronged. Baffert has been suspended from Churchill Downs until a DNA test comes back which will give a confirmation on rather or not the horse will be disqualified from the races.
