
Joe C. Ryan
(Lovingly known as “Skip”)
Joe “Skip” Carrol Ryan, 81, of Banner, KY. went home to his heavenly rest on Saturday, May 22, 2021. He was born Sept. 30, 1939 In Jenkins, Ky. to the late Thomas Emmitt Ryan and the late Virginia Myrtle Mullins Ryan. He is survived by his “darling little wife”, of sixty-one years; Patsy Lou Mullins Ryan.
After finishing high school in Corbin, Ky., he joined the army and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He drove a bus for Metro Bus Lines, Alexandria, Va. for fourteen years. After moving back to his home state of Kentucky, he served nearly twenty years?’ in the Kentucky National Guard. He worked many years as a heavy equipment operator
for Rebel Coal Surface Mines in Martin County Ky. In 1984 Joe graduated from Kentucky Military Academy, Kentucky National Guard. Sgt. Joe Ryan was also appointed a Raider in Boheas Command 1979 as a mountaineer. Skip had many interests and hobbies. He loved gardening and took pride in his vegetable garden and in sharing what he grew with family, friends, and neighbors. He enjoyed reading Western novels, shopping for and talking about cars. Skip was a great storyteller and had many stories about his childhood and youth. He loved to make people laugh.
He served as treasurer for Floyd County Extension Office, who awarded him with “The Outstanding Ag Resource Leadership Award” in 2006 Joe was a was an active
member of the Bee Keeper Association and a former member of the Goat Association. In 2019, he was inducted into Floyd County Extension Hall of Fame for years of services and leadership to Extension Office efforts.
He was also honorary Kentucky Colonel. He was a member and elder of The Prestonsburg Church of Christ for forty-eight years. Skip was truly dedicated to his faith, family, and his community.

To honor his extraordinary life we will have visitation, Tuesday and Wednesday evening after 6pm. The memorial service will be Thursday at 11am. Visitation and the service will be at The Prestonsburg Church of Christ. 88 KY Hwy. 1428, Prestonsburg, KY. 41653.
