Perry County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Campbell is being honored after his quick thinking saved a life this past Monday. Deputy Campbell will be receiving the Life Saving and Meritorious Service Awards for his actions.

On Monday afternoon, the deputy responded to a mental crisis call. Upon his arrival, he found the man hanging from a tree in his backyard, just minutes away from death. He was unable to lift the man out of his situation, so the deputy insisted the man stand on his shoulders until a family member could assist in cutting him down, saving the man’s life.

In a Facebook post by the Perry County Sheriff’s Department, they also mention that Deputy Campbell stayed to comfort the man afterwards, waiting with him until help arrived.
