Shootout Over Weekend Ends With Two In Hospital

A shootout which took place over the weekend resulted in a state trooper and a suspect both being injured.

 

Saturday morning at around 4:30am, police were called to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Carrie Community. Upon their arrival to the scene, officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over. According to police, that’s when the driver of the vehicle began to fire his weapon towards officers, striking one of them. An officer then returned fire, hitting the driver and forcing him to surrender.

 

The injured trooper was taken to the ARH in Hazard, where he was treated and then released. The suspect was also taken to the ARH, but has since been moved to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. He remains there in intensive care. The Kentucky State Police have withheld some more specific information regarding the arrest, including the identities of those concerned, while the investigation is underway.
