A man out of Floyd County was arrested in Pikeville for warrants on four separate indictments. He’s now facing even more charges after failing to inform police that his dog was locked inside his vehicle when they took him to jail.
41-year-old Christopher Scott Hamilton, of Teaberry, was at the Food City in Pikeville when police arrested him for failure to show up to answer four cases involving theft and burglary.
Before escorting him to jail, officers asked Hamilton if he had a car outside or anyone waiting on him. He then told police that his girlfriend had dropped him off, but that she had probably left after seeing the police.
Around two hours later, police were called back to the Food City after Hamilton’s vehicle was discovered in the parking lot, with his dog trapped inside. Officers reported the dog to be distressed, as the windows were all closed and temperature were in the mid 80’s.
Not long after, Hamilton’s girlfriend showed up and informed police that he dropped her off at the Wal-Mart and when he didn’t return, she walked over to the Food City. After reviewing security camera footage, it became clear that Hamilton did drive to the store and left the dog inside the car.
He now faces additional charges of animal cruelty and marijuana possession, after officers discovered a joint in his car.
