A commercial truck driver, 31-year-old Travis Lee Toliver, of Jackson, Ohio, has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular manslaughter for the role he had in a fatal DUI crash in Wise County that took place earlier this year.

Toliver admitted to being under the influence of meth, fentanyl, and amphetamines when the crash occurred back in February.

He was driving an International 9400 the wrong way in the southbound lanes of US 23 when he hit a Chevy Cruze head-on. The driver of the Chevy, Amanda Gail Pearson, was maimed in the crash and had to be flown to a Tennessee hospital for treatment. A passenger of the Chevy, Perry Shea Owens, died at the scene.

“This is a tragic case in which an innocent life was cut short because of the reckless and selfish actions of an intoxicated driver,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Chuck Slemp in a statement. “We are determined to hold this man accountable for his senseless crimes.”

Toliver is now facing a maximum of 26 years in prison. He will be sentenced in October.
