Police and SWAT Team members surrounded a home in Covington this past Saturday after receiving a 911 call about a shooting.
The call in question came in saying that a man had shot his wife in the head and that he was going to shoot police officers who were on the scene.
When police arrived at the home on Jefferson Avenue, just after 11pm, they placed the entire family in handcuffs.
The only issue? It was all a hoax according to the family involved.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
The homeowner later learned his family had been a victim of “swatting”, which is when someone makes a fake emergency call to 911 officials in the hopes that police, and usually swat team members, will respond to the fake call.
The homeowner says that his son was playing an online video game and got into an argument with another player. Not long after, officers were stationed outside their home with assault rifles.
It took officials and family members a while to figure out the call had been falsified. The homeowner also claims that officers spent nearly an hour searching his home, even after they learned the call was fake.
Covington Police say the incident remains under investigation.
