Two residents of Letcher County were indicted in federal court for allegedly obtaining stimulus funds through fraud.
27-year-old Madison Balo and 21-year-old Kyler Sullivan, both of Jenkins, have both been charged with theft of government money, identity theft conspiracy, and wire fraud. Sullivan faces only one count of wire fraud for filing a $10,000 advance on a business loan while Balo is charged with seven counts for filing multiple applications, each valued at $10,000.
The two stand accused of taking a $1,200 stimulus payment that was intended for someone else along with filing fraudulent applications for pandemic-related business loans.
If convicted, the pair will face a potential prison sentence of up to 10-years for the theft charge, 15-years for the identity theft charge, and 20-years for the wire fraud charges along with restitution.
