Last week, the former city attorney for Elkhorn City was sentenced to more than three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to bank fraud and filing false tax returns.
56-year-old Timothy Belcher had previously to taking over $800,000 from a settlement intended for the children of a man who was killed in a car crash. He had been using that money for his own personal and business-related expenses.
In all, Belcher received a sentence of 41 months in prison. Along with that, he was also ordered to repay $816,000 to the children, who were the intended recipients of the stolen settlement money, as well as an additional $51,000 to the IRS.
Belcher was taken into custody following his sentencing and is currently being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
