A portion of God’s Direction Church in Catlettsburg caught fire this past Sunday evening.

According to deputies, the fire began shortly after a driver, who is said to have been under the influence, crashed into the church. Boyd County Sheriff’s Office Officials arrested Timothy Butler and charged him with DUI.

The fire is believed to have started with the vehicle, but as of now it is unclear what actually caused the flames to ignite.

The pastor of the church, J.R. Hampton, says the incident occurred mere hours after Sunday service had concluded. He adds that, had the church decided to have evening service that day, members would have been present during the time of the fire.

Members are said to have recovered a few pictures and a plaque of the 10 Commandments, but the majority of items that lined their fellowship hall were lost forever.

Anyone who wishes to assist in the reconstruction of this church can make donations here.
