A couple out of Knott County was forced to deliver their own baby on the side of the road during their drive to the hospital.
Zach and Whitney Hurt were finishing up their quarantining after catching COVID-19.
That morning, January 14th, the couple woke up to sudden contractions. They immediately started the drive towards Whitesburg ARH. After passing Red Fox, the couple called 911 to ask for help out of fear they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time for the delivery. The dispatcher told them to continue going to the hospital.
The situation did not take long to escalate, as the couple made it as far as Isom before Mrs. Hurt’s water broke.
According to Mrs. Hurt, she herself delivered the baby as her husband was pulling off of the road. The couple arrived at the hospital with their daughter, Sadie Hurt, shortly after.
According to the couple, their daughter was perfectly healthy.
